Dr. Satarupa Dasgupta, assistant professor of applied communication in the School of Contemporary Arts, is the recipient of the prestigious聽Activism & Social Justice Pedagogy award from the National Communication Association. The award聽recognizes her activism and social justice pedagogy as well as the impact of her research and teaching on communities in need. Most recently, Dr. Dasgupta won the 2022 James W. Carey Urban Communication Grant from the Urban Communication Foundation and the International Communication Association for her research project titled聽“The impact of mobility and visibility in urban spaces on stigmatization and healthcare seeking behavior among non-brothel-based transient sex workers.”
Students who have the opportunity to work with Dr. Dasgupta engage in independent and original research and present their research at regional and state level academic conferences such as聽 Northeast Regional Undergraduate Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity Conference (COPLAC,) New Jersey Women and Gender Studies Consortium Undergraduate Research Colloquium, New Jersey Communication Association annual conference, and New York Communication Association.
