Computers are pervasive in today\u2019s world and Ramapo College Computer Science graduates have available to them a broad range of career opportunities in business, government, and academia.\u00a0 Our recent graduates have established careers in software development, project management, research, marketing, database development and administration, financial engineering, data mining, systems administration, quality assurance, education, game development, management, consulting and sales.\u00a0 Our graduates often continue on to graduate school while they pursue their careers.<\/p>\n
Computer Science is the study of the representation, storage, and transformation of information.\u00a0 The subject areas of computer science include algorithms and data structures, programming languages, object-oriented programming, GUI programming, web-based development, operating systems, compiler design, numerical analysis, simulation, data communication and network programming, database design, artificial intelligence, robotics, big data, computer graphics, security, machine learning, and software methodologies.<\/p>\n
The content of Computer Science majors is fairly consistent throughout the world.\u00a0 There is however a variation\u00a0in the contents of the major from one college to the next.\u00a0 So, anyone studying abroad should get advice from Computer Science faculty on what courses will transfer into our major.\u00a0 The primary benefit of study abroad is to understand and work with people from other cultures.\u00a0 The field of Computer Science is truly international.\u00a0 In most of our classes at Ramapo, at least 25% of the students are from other parts of the world.\u00a0\u00a0 In industry, this fraction is often higher.\u00a0 So, understanding, gaining sensitivity to, and having\u00a0an\u00a0appreciation\u00a0for cultural differences is very important.<\/p>\n
